What’s Causing Your Wrinkles?

Many people suffer from wrinkles on their faces. In some cases, these wrinkles are just an inevitable part of aging. Other times, however, they occur due to things that people do. By knowing the common causes of wrinkles, you can help to reduce them as you age.

Sun Exposure

The sun and its harmful ultraviolet rays can easily cause wrinkles to develop. This is especially true if you are naturally fair-skinned and/or if you spend a lot of time unprotected in the great outdoors.

To help prevent wrinkles from sun exposure, limit your time in the sun as much as possible, and never use tanning beds. Furthermore, wear sunblock on a daily basis. Even a few short minutes spent outside add up and can lead to the development of wrinkles.

And, even worse than wrinkles, too much sun exposure can also increase your risk of skin cancer. Thus, take care to reduce your sun exposure and protect yourself from the sun's rays as much as possible.

Smoking

Another major cause of premature wrinkles is smoking cigarettes.

Cigarettes are bad for your body in every possible way, and this includes being bad for your skin. Not only do the chemicals in cigarette smoke contribute to premature aging, but the constant puckering of the face and other facial movements you make while smoking can also have an impact.

For your health and to reduce wrinkles, do not take up smoking or even vaping, which is vastly unresearched as of yet and mimics many of the movements of smoking. If you already smoke, work hard to quit. You can save both your skin and your life by making this smart decision.

City Living

It may surprise you to know that living in the city or in another urban setting can actually contribute to more wrinkles. The reason for this is that these areas are more prone to pollution, which can cause free radical damage that leads to wrinkles.

If moving out of the city is not a viable option for you, don't panic. You can combat the wrinkling effects of city living by taking good care of your skin and being sure to wash your face thoroughly each morning and night.

As you can see, lots of factors can contribute to wrinkles. However, there is a lot you can do to guard against them. And remember, if all else fails, there are many treatments available that can help to get rid of wrinkles and make you look younger and more vibrant.
